A few days ago I watched the film adaptation of the Tennessee Williams play, A Streetcar Named Desire (1951). It features Vivien Leigh as Blanche DuBois, Kim Hunter as her sister Stella (Stellllla!), and Marlon Brando as Stella’s husband Stanley Kowalski. This two-hour long melodrama depicts Blanche’s extended stay at the Kowalskis New Orleans home, where she often insults Stanley for being a class below her, while failing to clarify her own murky past. Stanley is a fiery hot head known for throwing and breaking things, while his wife often cleans up the mess. Watch for passion (read: men inappropriately expressing their emotions), classism, and Marlon in tight shirts. Watch A Streetcar Named Desire on HBO Max.
